Autism Testing
Autism Evaluations in Richmond, VA for Children, Teens, and Young Adults
I provide gold-standard, evidence-based autism assessments for children, teens, and young adults—including individuals up to age 30 who are seeking diagnostic clarity, answers, or a better understanding of themselves. Autism testing can bring much-needed insight and provide a clear roadmap for next steps, supports, and self-advocacy.
Each autism evaluation is tailored to the individual and includes:
Comprehensive clinical interview (with caregivers when applicable)
Cognitive assessment
Autism-specific testing (e.g., ADOS-2)
Psychological measures selected to match each client’s needs
Screening for co-occurring conditions such as ADHD, anxiety or learning disorders
Personalized feedback shortly after testing
A high-quality diagnostic report with results, diagnoses, and detailed recommendations
Whether your child is showing early developmental differences, your teen is experiencing social or academic challenges, or you’re a young adult seeking to finally understand lifelong patterns, a high-quality assessment can make a meaningful difference.
Why Might My Child Need an Autism Assessment?
Early identification can help children access the right supports and develop skills that promote long-term success. I evaluate children as young as 3 years old, and assessments may be needed when a child shows:
Difficulty communicating (including limited eye contact or nonverbal gestures)
Reduced interest in or challenges with social interaction
Repetitive motor movements or repeated speech
Limited imaginative play or highly repetitive play routines
Strong resistance to changes in routine or transitions
Significant sensory sensitivities (e.g., sound, touch, movement)
If you are noticing one or more of these signs, a diagnostic evaluation can clarify your child’s strengths, challenges, and support needs.
Autism Evaluation for Teens & Young Adults (Up to Age 30)
Many teens and young adults seek autism assessments because they:
Have always felt “different” socially
Mask or camouflage their difficulties
Struggle with executive functioning, sensory overload, or burnout
Want clarity before entering college, the workforce, or independent living
Need documentation for accommodations, disability services, or workplace supports
My evaluations for young adults up to age 30 are affirming, respectful, and collaborative. Whether someone is exploring a long-questioned diagnosis or seeking accommodations for school or work, the goal is clarity and empowerment.
What Does the Autism Assessment Process Involve?
1. Intake Appointment
During this session, I meet with you—and your child, if assessing a minor—to learn more about concerns, history, strengths, and goals. This conversation helps me carefully select the right combination of tests for the evaluation.
2. Testing Session
During the approximately 3-hour testing appointment, I work directly with my clients. Assessment activities explore:
Cognitive abilities
Social communication
Play and interaction (for younger children)
Executive functioning
Behavioral and emotional functioning
Autism-specific tests (e.g., ADOS-2)
Co-occurring mental health concerns (e.g., anxiety)
I tailor the process to create a comfortable, supportive environment.
3. Feedback Session
In a 60-minute feedback appointment, I review:
Testing results
Diagnoses (if applicable)
Strengths and areas of need
Recommendations for home, school, work, or daily functioning
Afterward, you receive a comprehensive written report that you can use for educational planning, workplace accommodations, therapy, disability services, or personal insight.
